Uncle Walter Ritte, Professor Kaleikoa Ka’eo, and others chained themselves to a cattle guard at 3:30am in extreme cold weather, with the intent of blocking TMT construction vehicle access to the summit of Mauna Kea.

It is heartbreaking to witness Hawaiians forced to such extremes to advocate for basic human rights, to be heard and seen as equals in a world that too often values Hawaiian culture as a plastic tourist hotel luau commodity, while authentic cultural practice is denied and policed.
